billboard along alabama state highway 59 south: "we need to talk --god" which got me to thinking. i've had lots and lots of ex-girlfriends begin conversations this way. what would it be like to have "the talk" with god? "listen, i really like you, but i just don't think this is working out anymore. it's not you, really. it's me. i think we're getting too close, is all. there's not enough give and take in this relationship. maybe you should try on some different deities, see how they fit. you know?" imagine what that would do for your sense of personal validation. being dumped by god. although, i would hope (s)he would at least have the common courtesy not to do it over the phone. i learned something fascinating tonight. the phrase "born with a silver spoon in your mouth" comes from older times, when a spoonful of liquid silver was administered to young children as an antibiotic (silver apparently has amazing bacteria-killing properties). obviously, only rich people could afford this silver treatment, hence the phrase's designation of affluent people. food for thought.
